ENG-8 Curriculum
The curriculum is organized thematically and is integrated with real-world issues and ideas to increase engagement, critical thinking, and prepare students for life-long learning (click here for more information about this educational approach). Students will be investigating the following thematic essential questions throughout the school year within the literature selections we will be reading and writing assignments (via blogs).
(Questions from Maurice Elias, Professor of Psychology)
- How does my life have meaning and purpose?
- What gifts do I have that the world wants and needs?
- To whom or what do I feel deeply connected?
- How can I rise above my fears and doubts?

8th Grade Literature
PARENTS- Please feel free to reach out to me with any concerns about the literature we will be reading in class. Assignments can be modified to meet you and your child's needs.
Please be advised- SSR books are based on student choice with adult supervision. There is a possibility that some of the young adult literature might contain mature uses of language and themes. Students are encouraged to select books within the high school library that are age appropriate and within their zone of proximal development (appropriate reading levels). SSR books will posted under SSR Participation on Skyward for parents to reference as well as with the HS Librarian. If you feel a book is inappropriate for your child, they are able to select an alternative read without penalty.
