Journalist
Role: A Journalist is a person that provides objective, non-biased information about the Mock Trial to the student body. They also assist the News Reporter in distributing the news and current information.

Goal: Write a News Article. Pick the topic, but it needs to provide factual information about the Mock Trial that would help students understand one of the following topics:
· Overview of the Beginning stages of the Mock Trial.
· The History of Johnny Cade.
· The Greasers and the Socs.
· Getting to know team prosecution & team defense.
· Summarize the Mock Trial.
· Your choice. See the Editor for approval.
Directions:
1. Read the “Understanding a Hard News Article”
2. Look over the example: “Briton Among Two United Nations”
3. Send the News Reporter to complete interviews. Include interviews in your article.
4. Once your selected your topic, collect factual information by conducting at least 2 interviews. You can interviews students and teachers. Make sure you get their permission and kindly ask. Do not record interviews using an electronic device. Take notes.
5. Include at least 1 picture in your article. Include at least 1 quote from the book.
6. Complete the “Planning a News Article Outline.”
7. Handwrite your article. Proofread your Rough Draft in a 6-inch voice. Give your copy to the Court Writer or Editor to proofread. Have them sign the bottom of your Rough Draft.
8. Once you’ve edited your article, create your News Article on the Read.Write.Think’s Printing Press: http://www.readwritethink.org/classroom-resources/student-interactives/printing-press-30036.html?tab=5#tabs
8. Print 2 copies. Give 1 to Mrs. Powers. Place the other copy with the rubric attached in your Portfolio. Your article will be distributed to the student body prior to Mock Trial.
