PORTFOLIO ASSIGNMENTS:
STEP TWO: Begin to research possible motives and key reasons/evidence that will support your argument (Johnny is a murder) with the ATTORNEY. Review the WITNESS TESTIMONY provided by the Secretary.
STEP THREE: Begin to research the opposing side (counter-argument). Research information about the following witnesses for the defense. You are NOT able to meet with them personally. Print and compile copies of your research to place in your portfolio.
Witness #1: Johnny Cade
Witness #2: Ponyboy Curtis
Witness #3: Sherry Valance “Cherry”
STEP FOUR: Prepare at least 7-10 Cross-Examination questions for each of the defense’s witnesses. Your goal is to prove that their testimony is not valid. Include a copy of the questions in your portfolio.
STEP FIVE: Review the Cross-Examination questions with the Attorney, when he or she is available.
STEP SIX: Review the Opening Statement, Direct Examination, Cross, and Closing Statement with the attorney.
STEP SEVEN: Read Handout 17- Objections. During the Mock Trial, it will be your responsibility to closely monitor the opposing side’s attorney. Let the attorney know when he or she should object and make sure you explain why.
Please complete any additional work the attorney feels is necessary. If the attorney is absent, you will become the attorney on the day of the Mock Trial.
